The share of renewable resources rose to the first place in 2020, surpassing fossil fuels for the first time in the European Union's (EU) electricity generation. Ember, an independent think-tank focused on climate and energy, headquartered in London, has published its report titled "European Energy Sector 2020". According to the report, the share of renewable sources in the EU's electricity generation, which was 34% in 2019, increased to 38% in 2020. In this period, fossil fuels followed renewable sources in electricity generation. The share of fossil fuels in 2019 fell from 40 to 37 percent in 2020.
